THE MONTESSORI APPROACH
Are you new to a Montessori school? Wondering what a Pink Tower is? Confused by why there are mixed ages in your child's class? In the words of the American Montessori Society, the Montessori method "is a view of the child as one who is naturally eager for knowledge and capable of initiating learning in a supportive, thoughtfully prepared learning environment. It is an approach that values the human spirit and the development of the whole child—physical, social, emotional, cognitive. Components necessary for a program to be considered authentically Montessori include multiage groupings that foster peer learning, uninterrupted blocks of work time, and guided choice of work activity." Visit the AMS website to find out just what that means, and watch the video below to see the Montessori approach to elementary education. Read this article to see why we value having a full pre-primary curriculum Pre-K 3 through kindergarten at Axson.
Arrival and Dismissal Reminders!
Here are a few reminders from Principal Vanhoy:
Drop off locations and areas to enter the school have changed for the 2019-2020 school year. Please make note of the changes. Extended Day drop off and pickup will take place in the front office. There will be NO entry at the back gate by the Cafeteria starting on the first day of school. Please look at the maps and visuals carefully to look for drop off, walk up and pick up locations. Thank you for your grace and courtesy as we implement these changes for the safety of all of our staff, students and families. Note that ALL entry doors will be CLOSED at 8:25 am. After 8:25 am, you must enter through the FRONT OFFICE DOOR only!
